Requiem of the Rose King (Japanese: 薔薇王の葬列, Hepburn: Bara Ou no Souretsu) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Aya Kanno, and licensed in North America by Viz Media. Roughly based on the Shakespearean plays Richard III and Henry VI, Part 3, it follows the character of Richard III during the tumultuous Wars of the Roses (1455-1487) period in English history. Requiem of the Rose King, Vol. 1 Richard’s father, the patriarch of the House of York, is poised to become king of medieval England during the bloody Wars of the Roses. But just as success is imminent, he is abruptly cut down.
